Ferrari pedal car

I have vague memories from a unique red Ferrari pedal car my brother and I had when we were very young in the early sixties. I don’t know if our parents bought the car new or used, but it was quite an impressive toy at that time.

this nice red example made by Ferbedo in Germany looks pretty much as the one we had

One day, our father proudly showed he had “adorned” the little car with a Touring Wegenhulp sticker (a Belgian roadside assistance company) but I remember I was sad about it.

this Touring Wegenhulp sticker didn't look right on the Ferrari pedal car

I didn’t ride the car very often as I hurt my feet slipping under the pedals at an early stage and was too scared to ride it again… My brother rode it a lot more. By the time I had regained my courage, I had grown too tall to fit in the car and rode it a few times sitting on top of the tail fairing. The car was then donated to my cousin Marc, a son of my uncle Jack. He loved riding the car, as you can see from the photos below (actually the only photos I have from our original pedal car).

These wonderful metal pedal cars were styled after the Ferrari 500 F2 that carried Alberto Ascari to the 1952 Drivers World Championship. The pedal cars were originally produced by Corrado and Remondini, two ex-Gordini employees in Bologna, Italy and featured working headlights (4.5 V battery powered and operated by a pushbutton on the right hand side of the dashboard). They had numerous fine details like exhaust pipes, knock off spoke wheels, rear view mirrors etc. These pedal cars were indeed some of the finest on offer at that time. A German company called Ferbedo also build these little marvels. I don’t know the story behind the fact they produced exactly the same cars and I don't know if they differed from the original Italian ones at all. I can’t see any differences on photos except for some discrete stickers.

I would love to find such a Ferrari pedal car again, but asking prices tend to go over the top, even for examples in poor condition. I missed a very nice one on a Belgian second hand site some time ago (early 2026), but would instantly buy it if it showed up again at a similar price (it was advertised at €1500,-).
